Category: Highland County Natural Syrups
Description
Hickory Syrup is made from the bark of the local, native Highland County Shagbark Hickory (Carya ovata) trees. Shagbark Hickory trees grow well over 100 feet tall and can live more than 350 years. The bark that falls off the trees in long strips is gathered, washed and toasted. An extract is made from the toasted bark with a little added organic cane sugar.
Hickory Syrup has a smooth, rich, somewhat smokey flavor…a bit like sitting around a campfire. It adds a unique flavor to pancakes and waffles and is also delicious on salmon and pork. Read more about Back Creek Farm’s Hickory Syrup.
