Wade’s Mill Hushpuppy Mix features our stone-ground Yellow Cornmeal for a classic Southern specialty.  Add grated onion, an egg and buttermilk to create little bites of fried cornmeal heaven. As a short cut, we often use a sour cream based French Onion dip in place of the grated onion and buttermilk.

Hushpuppies are delicious on their own with your favorite dipping sauce or as a side with pulled pork or chicken, any barbecued meat, chicken or fish, a bowl of chili…you get the picture.  We love to use them as “crutons” in chili, soup or in a salad.  And leftover hushpuppies are great the next morning with poached eggs on top.

For a healthier option, with no frying oil to clean up afterwards, we use a teaspoon or cookie scoop to plop the hushpuppy mix into a mini-muffin pan or mini-muffin cases and bake them in the oven at 425 degrees for 10-15 minutes.  Baked this way, they are like a denser, crunchier mini corn muffin.  And because they are healthier without having been fried in oil, you can eat more of them!
